1666 is a horror feature length film with a ‘found-footage’ element, but a visual style all its’ own. We like to think of it as a Paranormal Activity for the ‘hipster’ crowd. The story is centered on four kids in their early 20’s, living in Hollywood, one of which is a film student. Together, they decide to document their exploration of famously haunted houses located in the Hollywood Hills on the night before Halloween. Houses like where George Reeves (the original Superman) is said to have committed suicide and where he still haunts tenants in his full Superman costume, a story that was retold in the Ben Affleck film, Hollywoodland. Or the field where the Black Dahlia (Elizabeth Short) was discovered after experiencing one of the most horrific murders in Los Angeles’ history, a story that was adapted into a film directed by Brian DePalma starring Scarlett Johansson and Josh Hartnett. These are the real-life stories of some of the most famous murders of Old Hollywood during a time of glamour and the Marilyn Monroe types. Other haunted stories include Thelma Todd, Sharon Tate (a brutally famous murder ordered by Charles Manson himself), Errol Flynn, Bugsy Siegel and the Houdini Mansion. All of the locations are REAL, all of the stories REAL.
