"13 SECONDS" writer/director Jeff Thomas gave Fango the news that his award-winning indie chiller will see commercial release October 19, as a special-edition DVD from Silver Nitrate. The people behind that production/distribution outfit “have been looking to strengthen themselves by creating their own video label,” Thomas tells Fango, “and part of that strategy is releasing titles that have done well at festivals and with critics, and "13 SECONDS" is one of those.” Indeed, the story of a rock band that goes to an abandoned school to shoot a video and gets bloodily dispatched one by one has won Best Horror Feature at the New York Independent International Film Festival, Best Independent Horror Feature at the UK's Fantastic Festival of Film (“awarded by Ramsey Campbell—this was an incredible honor”), Best Independent Feature at the Calgary International Horror Film Festival, Best Picture and Best Horror Feature at the Bare Bones International Horror Film Festival and Best Special FX at the Detroit International Horror Film Festival.Nevertheless, "13 SECONDS" has been tweaked on the way to its DVDebut. “The movie sports a new edit; it's actually about five minutes shorter,” Thomas explains. “There's a new sound design and audio mix, along with fresh titles and graphics. What I'm personally most proud of is that we have a new filmlook as well that looks absolutely phenomenal.” And the disc won't lack for extras: “It'll have a director's commentary, a special FX artists commentary, deleted scenes, early rough cuts of different scenes, all the original trailers and behind-the-scenes still galleries on the making of the gore effects.” Check out the Rainstorm Pictures website for more info on the movie.
