Interview with Danny Nelson - August 2005

Well with so many killer horror movies, who can choose just one?
I guess I will go with "JAWS" for one reason, it scared me before I even seen the movie. As you know it came out in 1975, I was a year old at the time so obviously I didn't see it then. When I was about 3 or 4 years old my uncle decided to tell me about the shark in "JAWS". Guess what we were at the beach!! Holy shit you want to talk about being scared, that was it. I didn't go in the water for about 3 years. He went into gruesome detail about the attacks. What a jerk off!! Hahahaha! But it did its job, it scared the shit out of me.

Probably "SCREAM" is a good candidate, well than again so is "DRACULA 2000". I was not a fan of "SCREAM" and I am still not. I mean I love campy horror movies with naked girls in it but this was kind of gay. I hated all the characters and wished them all dead. It was a new spin on horror, I will give credit where it is due. Wes Craven is a master of horror but all the "SCREAM" movies did nothing for me.

Everyone says George Romero, I agree. He is the be-all end-all of zombie movies. But there are a lot of great directors and producers out there. I really love Sam Raimi's work. "EVIL DEAD" is such a classic. I think what did it for me is the really different approach to the camera work. There were some great scenes in that movie. Hopefully the classic will not be ruined by a remake. Plus the "SPIDERMAN" movies are something I am glad he did, they came out great. George Lucas rules over them all!! But he is not a horror enthusiast. Just look at what he has done for the movie industry in general. Wow!!

Again there are too many to just choose one but I guess I will. I think Harrison Ford is a killer actor. From carpenter to movie star, that is a huge achievement. "STAR WARS" (the originals) is one of the best trilogies next to "INDIANA JONES". Guess what Harrison & Lucas together. I grew up with those movies & I love them.

This might sound cheesy but the scene in "HOUSE OF 1,000 CORPSES" when Bill Moseley killed the cop with an executioner's style blast to the head. It was a cool build up of tension because you knew he was going to do it. I am not a Rob Zombie fan musically but he did a good job on the movie. It reminded me of "LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT" & "TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE" put together.

Well the first name in horror music is Goblin. It is really eerie and atmospheric stuff. If you guys mean death metal, well I like Ghoul's approach. It's a good thrash/death mixture and the whole "make pretend" aspect is pretty cool. But we all know that Mortician was one of the first death metal bands to really utilize the horror genre to their advantage. Of course there is also Impetigo, Necrophagia and many more from the early days of metal and horror.

I am a sucker for video game soundtracks personally! As far as movies go, the one thing I noticed was the main theme is always the best and the most memorable. When you hear the music for "HALLOWEEN", "JAWS", "RE-ANIMATOR", "TALES FROM THE DARKSIDE" (TV show), etc. you know where it is from. But then again that's the movie score, soundtracks almost always have bands on them that are not that good. The soundtrack is almost never good from beginning to end. Although there are some: You guys remember "TRICK OR TREAT"? Fastway did the whole soundtrack & it was great! "RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD" was another great one, all those killer punks, awesome memories!!

I like the movie poster for "JAWS". ahahah!! Although I do like the one for "JAWS 2 better. It is the cover to the LP soundtrack. What I dig about it is the look of terror on the face of would be victim.

You mean which movies need to stop being made? Both characters have been done to death! I hate the way they killed the movies, they just keep getting worse. "FRIDAY THE 13TH" was good up to "THE LAST CHAPTER" & Nightmare was good until "DREAM WARRIORS" & even that was a little cheesy. The "FREDDY VS. JASON" movie was entertaining at best! I just hate the characters. I wish they would stop putting ghetto thugs in horror movies! Because they annoy you throughout the whole movie, you just want them dead! Hahahaha!
