Talking to CBR, writer Steve Niles commented on the status of Wake the Dead, the movie based on his retelling of the Frankenstein story, which is being produced by Joel (Flatliners) Schumacher. (Hey, Joel Schumacher could made a good movie based on a comic book after all!) Niles said things are moving fast and that he expects to have some news as soon as next week. He also said the latest incarnation of the 30 Days of Night script (by Collateral screenwriter Stuart Beattie) is getting positive feedback, with shooting expected to begin shortly.

Meanwhile in the comic book front, Niles announced one particularly cool project called Earth Versus Monsters -- a maxi-series he'll be doing next year with Aussie artist Ashley Wood. "Remember the horror movie posters from the fifties where they were better than the actual horror movies? That's what this series is going to be like. (...) Those posters had such energy. You know those ones that show the Earth being attacked by flying saucers or monsters, the 'Attack of the Fifty Foot Woman' and so on. I've done all this stuff with the monsters in the shadows, so this is the monsters getting their shit together. They've got a budget, they've got a military and they've figured out a way to get rid of most of the weapons that humans have to use against them and they're going to wipe us out."

That could mean the end of civilization as we know it! I just hope they release Wood's gorgeous art as a poster itself before that.
